MLB Displays Remarkable 2015 Home Run Derby, All Star Game

Español

Major League Baseball changed the format for the Homerun Derby and it didn't disappoint. The All Star Game kept the same rules, but it didn't disappoint either. Both took place in Cincinnati, Ohio, at Great American Ballpark, the stadium where the Reds Play.

During the Home Run Derby, the MLB had planned on giving each batter 5 minutes (as opposed to 10 outs), but the rainy weather cut the time to 4 minutes. Bonus time (30 seconds) could be earned by reaching specified home run distances, and the two time periods added together resulted in a perfect amount of total time. Another new aspect of the Derby was a tournament bracket instead of a group, which advanced the top half of the sluggers.

Todd Frazier plays for the Cincinnati Reds, and participated in both the Home Run Derby and All Star Game. Other contestants in the Home Run Derby included Albert Pujols of the Angels, Josh Donaldson of the Blue Jays, Manny Machado of the Orioles, Joc Pederson of the LA Dodgers, Anthony Rizzo of the Cubs, Prince Fielder of the Rangers, and Kris Bryant of the Cubs.

In dramatic fashion Todd Frazier put up a display of home runs, making the final round after beating Prince Fielder and Josh Donaldson in previous rounds. His opponent was Joc Pederson, who came on top against Machado and Albert Pujols. Pederson hit first and recorded 14 home runs--a great performance; However, it ended up falling short, as the crowd pushed Frazier to 15, making him the champion.

In the All Star Game, Mike Trout was the All Star game MVP for the second time in a row. He hit a lead-off bomb and led the American League team to a 6-3 victory over the National League team. All of the baseball players will rest for a few days before playing games.
