A Christmas Present For You

This Christmas, I believe you would benefit from learning about the Book of Mormon, and you can also have a free copy if you desire.

It's very probable you've at least heard of the Book of Mormon. I am going to share a simple summary of it for those who have any interest in learning more.

The Book of Mormon is a sacred book of scripture that was written by ancient prophets in the Americas.

The name comes from the second to last writer, Mormon, who compiled the important writings from other prophets and also included his own texts. His son, Moroni wrote the concluding chapters. Moroni buried the records in order for them be preserved according to the Lord's purposes, where it was later brought forth by the modern-day prophet Joseph Smith.

The Book of Mormon does not replace the Bible. It supports it. The cover says: Another Testament of Jesus Christ. The main doctrines taught include faith in Jesus Christ, repentance, baptism and enduring to the end.

Soon after his death and resurrection, the Book of Mormon teaches that Jesus Christ visited the people in the Americas. He taught them many of the same things that he taught during his ministry among the people of Israel.

El Libro de Mormón es una escritura sagrada que fue escrita por antiguos profetas en las américas. Hold onto What Matters Most

Countless influences are always seeking to catch our attentions. In the midst of all these complexities, it can be challenging to consistently hold onto the most important things in life. Oftentimes we become overly focused on things of the moment rather than things of greater consequence. How you interact with those around you can have a profound effect on many lives.

Our relationships with others have a greater impact than anything else. Cherish those relationships. Remember others that may be forgotten. Don't assume that others know of your love for them. Show it!

As mentioned in the listed video, in the midst of difficulties, always esteem people over solving problems. You will win every time.

Quedarse con lo más importante

Hay innumerables influencias que siempre procuran a atraer nuestras atenciones. En medio de todas estas complejidades, puede ser un desafío constantemente quedarse con las cosas más importantes de la vida. A menudo nos ponemos demasiado enfocados en las cosas del momento en lugar de las cosas de más consecuencia. La manera de asociar con gente en tu alrededor puede realizar un afecto profundo en muchas vidas.

Nuestras relaciones con los demás tienen impacto más notable que cualquier otra cosa. Apégate a estas relaciones. Recuérdate de los olvidados. No presumas que otras personas ya conozcan tu amor por ellos. ¡Muéstraselo!

Thanksgiving Can Start Now

Just about everybody dedicates time to show gratitude during the week of Thanksgiving. I want to share ways to always be sincerely grateful for all of your blessings. Although this might be something you hear about often, doing it can have a positive impact on your life.

Decide to share gratitude at least once every day. Show appreciation for all the people in your life. Look for simple things that you appreciate. Don't take things for granted. The other day I realized how grateful I am for trash cans!

Give yourself small challenges throughout the year. The following ideas can help you to feel more gratitude:

• Disconnect yourself from your cellphone, I pod, etc. for a period of time. Even only a few hours could make a difference. I did this earlier in the year for a whole day. It was a meaningful experience.
• Write down some things you are thankful for. Write a thank you card.
• Keep a journal. Write down meaningful things that others have done for you, etc.
• Show people you appreciate them. Don't be afraid to compliment others often!

 As you do your best to share gratitude, you will find greater joy.

La acción de dar gracias puede empezar ahora

Casi todos dedican tiempo para mostrar la gratitud durante la semana del día de acción de dar gracias. Quiero mostrarte las maneras de siempre estar sinceramente agradecido por todas tus bendiciones. Aunque tal vez esto es algo que has escuchado a menudo, hacerlo puede efectuarte un impacto positivo a la vida.

Decídete de compartir gratitud por lo menos una vez cada día. Comparte apreciación a cada persona en tu vida. Busca las cosas sencillas que aprecies. No des nada por sentado. ¡El otro día me di cuenta de cuán    agradecido estoy por los botes de basura!

Date pequeños retos durante el año. Las siguientes ideas pueden ayudarte a sentir más gratitud:

• Desconectarte del celular, I pod, etc. por un período de tiempo. Aun unas pocas horas pueden realizar gran diferencia. Yo cumplí con esto más temprano del año por un día completo. Fue una experiencia significativa.
• Escribir las cosas por las cuales estás agradecido. Escribir una carta de gracias.
• Mantener un diario. Registrar las cosas significantes que otras personas hayan hecho a favor de ti, etc.
• Mostrar a otras personas que las aprecias. ¡No tengas miedo de piropear a otras personas a menudo!

Al hacer tu mejor para mostrar gratitud, encontrarás más gozo.

Boston Unites Behind World Series Victory

                This year's World Series is unforgettable for many people. From David Ortiz's extraordinary performance to two dramatic finishes, there were plenty of important moments that will be talked about for years. Although I don't consider myself a fan of either the Boston Red Sox or the St. Louis Cardinals, the occasion was still exceptional. 

               Boston quickly recovered from a terrible 2012 campaign. This year, the Cardinals and Red Sox had the same regular season records (97-65), which were the best in the MLB. A World Series match-up between two teams with the best records doesn't happen frequently. The historical success both teams have enjoyed added to the excitement.

               As mentioned, Red Sox slugger David Ortiz played extremely well in the World Series, hitting .688% with two home runs, two doubles and six RBIs- all from 11 hits. The performance earned him MVP and more spots in the record books.

               The Red Sox won four games to two in the series, and it was the first time since 1918 that the Red Sox won the World Series in Boston. But the Championship means even more than that. The triumph also helped people in Boston come celebrate together, which helps the city to overcome the bombing that happened earlier in the year.

               All of these circumstances made this World Series a unique way to finish an exciting baseball season. 

Boston se une tras victoria en la Serie Mundial 

               La Serie Mundial este año es inolvidable para muchas personas. Desde el desempeño extraordinario de David Ortiz hasta dos fines dramáticos, había muchos momentos de los cuales se hablará por años. Aunque no me considero un aficionado de las Medias Rojas de Boston ni los Cardenales de San Luis, la ocasión aún fue excepcional.

               Boston recubrió rápidamente de una terrible campaña 2012. Este año, los Cardenales y Medias Rojas tenían a las mismas marcas de la temporada regular (97-65), las cuales eran máximos en la MLB. Un encuentro en la Serie Mundial entre dos equipos con las mejores marcas no ocurre con frecuencia. El éxito historial del que ambos equipos han disfrutado agregó a la emoción.

                      Como mencionado, el pelotero de Las Medias Rojas David Ortiz jugó extremadamente bueno en la Serie Mundial, bateando .688% con dos cuadroangulares (Jonrons), dos dobletes y seis corridas impulsadas- todo por 11 batazos. La actuación le ganó el Jugador Más Valioso y más lugares en los libros de récords.
               Las Medias Rojas ganó cuatro partidos a dos en la serie, y fue la primera vez desde 1918 que las Medias Rojas ganó la Serie Mundial en Boston. Mas el Campeonato significa más de eso. El triunfo también fomentó que la gente en Boston se celebraran juntas, lo cual ayuda a la ciudad a superar el bombardeo que sucedió más temprano en el año.
               Todas estas circunstancias ocasionaron que esta Serie Mundial fuera una manera única a terminar una temporada emocionante del béisbol. 

The Bronco Show

            Last season, the BYU Cougar’s Football Team took a trip in September to play against the Boise State Broncos on their famous (or infamous) Blue Field. In that game, neither offense could consistently pierce through their opponent’s tenacious defense. At the end of the contest, the Broncos pulled out the victory 7-6, with their only touchdown coming from an interception return by a defensive lineman.

            Bronco Mendenhall, BYU’s Coach, thinks that this encounter between the two teams will be a different kind of game 2; and he’s got good reasons to think so.

            Boise State has generally had a great offense, but last year the team had problems early on, as it was trying to replace Kellen Moore (Boise’s Quarterback 2008-2011, went 50-3 and broke the national record for wins. His three loses were a combined 5 points). Although their offense has been pretty good this year, it will have uncertainty due to the injury of Quarterback Joe Southwick last week against Nevada. Boise State’s Coach Chris Petersen will turn to Grant Hedrick (a Junior) as the starter against BYU. He runs very fast and showed last week against Nevada that he can also pass efficiently. After Southwick's exit, Hedrick headed his team to a 34-17 victory after having an early 17-7 deficit.

            Although BYU has a great receiver in Cody Hoffman, I think Boise State has better depth at the position. #11 Shane Williams-Rhodes is the team's fastest receiver, but #2 Matt Miller and #17 Geraldo Boldewijn are probably the team’s best receivers. Running back Jay Ajayi is the star of the team with 12 rushing touchdowns and an average of 5.7 yards a carry 3. 

For BYU, it's important to know that in last year’s game, QB Taysom Hill (now the starter) played only in the second half, but still led BYU’s offense to their only score of the night. Now that Hill is playing at home and has more experience, things should go much better for BYU’s offense.

           Although I hope BYU wins today in Provo, I support each team. Chris Petersen enters into his 100th game and is looking for his 90th win. He greatly respects BYU, and even justified many of the points that BYU's defense allowed against Houston 4.
           I just hope that each team does better than last year's game. I pick BYU 27- Boise State 24.
            

El Espectáculo de Los Broncos 

            En la temporada pasada, el Equipo de Fútbol Americano de los BYU Cougars emprendió un viaje en septiembre para jugar contra los Boise State Broncos en su famoso (o infame) Campo Azul. En ese partido, ningún de las ofensas podía consistentemente traspasar por la defensa tenaz de su opositor. En el fin de la competencia, los Broncos de Boise consiguieron la victoria 7-6, con su única anotación una intercepción devuelta por un linero defensivo.

Bronco Mendenhall, entrenador de BYU, piensa que este encuentro entre los dos equipos será un diferente tipo de partido 2. Tiene buena razón con eso.

Boise State generalmente ha tenido grandes ofensas, pero temprano en la temporada pasada el equipo tenía problemas, debido a que trataran de reemplazar a Kellen Moore  (El Mariscal de Campo/QB para Boise 2008-2011, 50-3 y batió la marca nacional de victorias, y sus tres pérdidas se sumaron a 5 puntos totales).             Solo espero que cada equipo juegue mejor que su partido del año pasado. Predigo a BYU 27-Boise State 24.
